Plenty of Hi-Line football talent on display Saturday

Summer hasn’t even officially started yet. But, for a bunch of local athletes, the gridiron is where they’ll be on the first weekend of June.

Saturday night, two Class C All-Star football games will be played, including the 8-man All-Star Game in Butte, and the 20th Annual Six-Man All-Star Game, which will be played in Highwood.

And both games will feature many Hi-Line prep stars.

In Highwood, a pair of North Star stalwarts and five players from Box Elder will be on the same team in the Six-Man All-Star Game.

North Star’s Gavin Spinler, who had an outstanding four-year career with Knights, and who is headed to play for Rocky Mountain College next fall, will team up with teammate Payton Peterson, who will play for Montana State University-Northern next fall, on the Red Team coached by Savage’s James Kessell.

Spinler is a two-time All-State performer, who is also set to play in the Can-Am All-Star game next month.

Also on the squad will be Box Elder’s Brandon The Boy, Jerrod Four Colors, Shane Ketchum, Bodis Duran and Elias Duran, all of whom helped the Bears to a runner-up finish in Six-Man last fall.

Meanwhile, in Butte, a host of players from the Northern C will make up the Blue Team in the 8-man All-Star Game. Defending state champion Chinook sends Ian McIntosh, Jake Norby, Kenny Pruttis, Derek Bell and Kevin Young, all of whom will play college football next fall, to the game. Fallen teammate Jesse Dannels, who passed away back in February, was also voted to the squad and will be honored during the game. Chinook head coach Scott Friede is also on the Red Team coaching staff.

Chester-Joplin-Inverness head coach Jim Vinson is also coaching the Red Team, and he’ll have several Hawks on the field Saturday night. Justin May, who’s headed to Montana Tech, along with Brandon Richter, who quarterbacked the Hawks to the playoffs last season, are also on the Red Team.

Both Class C All-Star games will kick off Saturday night at 7 p.m.
