Area stars lead Montana to wins

It had been a long time since Havre High, or players from the Hi-Line made such an imprint on the Montana roster for the Midland Roundtable Montana-Wyoming boys basketball series.

But, this weekend, the Hi-Line contingent of Havre’s Dane Warp and Box Elder’s Brandon The Boy and Jerrod Four Colors did much more than help fill out the Montana All-Star roster, they led the way to the Montana stars winning two straight over their Wyoming counterparts.

Warp, the three-time Class A All-State Blue Pony led the Montana team in scoring, both in its 93-79 win Friday night in Sheridan, Wyoming, and again in Montana’s 102-81 victory Saturday night at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. Friday night, Warp poured in a game-high 23 points, while he pumped in a team-high 19 points in the Fortin Center Saturday night as Montana won its 10th straight in series.

“We don’t want to be the team that lets down and gives (the streak) up,” Warp told the Billings Gazette Saturday night. “We have some resilient guys. We’re just glad to come out with the win.”

Some of Warp’s resilient teammates were also his neighbors from Box Elder. On Friday night, The Boy put on a show with 11 assists while also scoring 13 points, and he came right back to get another double-double Saturday night. The Boy tallied 14 points in the gym he’ll be playing in the future, as he has signed to play at RMC.

Four Colors, who’s staying close to home after signing with Montana State University-Northern, had a quiet Friday night, scoring six points, but he exploded for 18 points in Saturday night’s blowout win in Billings, giving the Hi-Line trio five double-digit performances in two nights.

There was also a Blue Pony showing big things in the girl’s clashes as well. Havre High’s Dani Wagner, bound for Carroll College this fall, scored seven points in Montana’s loss to Wyoming Friday night, and she helped the Montana stars bounce back with a 62-56 win Saturday night in Billings. In the second outing, Wagner scored eight points.

MSU-Northern women’s recruit Shiloh McCormick scored team-high’s of 12 and 20 points, respectively.
