Strong to severe thunderstorms, large hail expected

The National Weather Service is predicting strong to severe thunderstorms over northcentral Montana between 4 and 9 p.m. today.

Hardest hit are likely to be Hill and Blaine counties, the weather service predicts.

Strong winds,, heavy rain and hail larger than golf balls are possible in Hill and Blaine counties, the weather service predicts. There will be frequent lightning and a tornado is possible, the weather service said.

“With numerous summer outdoor activities planned for today, event organizers should be prepared for thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, and remember that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.” the weather service said in its alert.
