Havre High band to march in new uniforms en route to DC

The Havre High marching band will march down 5th Avenue Tuesday starting at 2:30 p.m.

Outgoing band director David Johnke said the march will begin at Rod’s Drive-in, take a right at the police station and end in Pepin Park. The streets will be blocked off.

Johnke said the parade was Superintendent Andy Carlson’s idea and that the band members will be marching in the new uniforms.

The march will be something of a dress rehearsal for the band’s march in Washington this weekend. The band was chosen to represent Montana at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, and band members have been raising money to fund the trip.

Johnke said he played a role in deciding on the design of the uniform. Several versions were looked at and worked on before deciding on the final design.

Although he said he never asked for new uniforms, Johnke said he was glad the band got them. He estimated it had been sometime since the late ’70s that the school band got completely new uniforms. Even the ones the band had received during his seven-year tenure were not new, he said. They were only new to them.
