Obituary - Delores Deo Messerly Berendzen

Delores "Brownie" Deo Berendzen passed away June 24, 2016, in Havre, Montana, after a battle with cancer.  

She was born July 9, 1938, in Malta, Montana, the daughter of Guy and Blanche (Agard) Deo.

Brownie attended school in Malta graduating in 1956. She married Fred Messerly in 1957. They had four children: Christine, Jolene, Vance and Charlie. They later divorced.

She spent her winters in Arizona, where she met and married Stan Berendzen. He died in 2004.

Brownie was a talented craft woman and enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and other needlework. She loved playing cards and shuffleboard with her Arizona friends. She mapped several cemeteries in Phillips County and spent many hours on genealogy research.

Brownie is survived by her children, Christine (Alan) Snider, Jolene (Clint) Ophus, Vance (Tonya) Messerly and Charlie (Jolynn) Messerly; and her grandchildren, Alanna (Kolin) Mahan, Alyson Gilmore, Alora Snider, Gal (Jake) Phillips, Guy (Carli) Simanton, Jordan, Layton and Tatyana Ophus, Logan Messerly, Somer, Camryn, Layla and J.J. Messerly.  She is also survived by six great-grandchildren as well as sisters Margaret (George) Shell and Marilyn Hericks, both of Apache Junction, Arizona, and aunts Dorothy Christensen and Frances Slade of Malta, Montana.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Brownie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Deo Shores, and husband, Stan Berendzen. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.
