Mick was born on Oct. 17, 1934, in Glasgow, Montana, to Bert and Kathryn (Sullivan) Smith. He was raised on the family farm outside of Malta, attending Strater School until his father passed away when he was 13, and his family moved to Malta to be near his mother's family.

Mick graduated from Malta High School in 1953, and went on to attend Northern Montana College until 1954, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Following his discharge, Mick worked in construction at the air force base in Glasgow, then for the air force base in Grand Forks, North Dakota, through 1957. In January 1958, Mick returned to Northern Montana College for a quarter. That March, he married Lola Rice, and began working for HO Motor Supply in Havre. In 1972, Mick became district manager, while also managing the Havre store. His 44-year career with HO Motor Supply ended with his retirement in 2002.

His beloved Lola had passed away in 2000. Mick worked at Tilleman Motor Co. for two years after retirement, and he loved every minute of it. In December 2004, Mick married Mary Ann Robinson, and the couple remained in Havre, spending as much time with their family as they were able.

Mick enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and memorabilia and reading the phone book, which led to finding an old friend in Seattle while he was there. He was a kind, caring man who enjoyed socializing and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mick led a faith-filled life, often reminding those he loved to attend church. He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Smith; his son, Bertrand Smith; his great-grandson Doc Mord; and his parents, Bert and Kathryn Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Smith of Havre; his daughters, Jeannette (Fred) Burrier of Olympia, Washington, and Mary Kay Brown (Thomas Johnson) of Havre; his stepdaughter, Janet Robinson of Havre; his stepsons, Michael (Kaye) Robinson of Missoula, David (Stephanie) Robinson of Iowa and Randy (Ann Marie) Robinson of Helena; his 16 grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sharon (Dale) Timm of Arizona; his brother, Joe (Vi) Smith of Deer Park, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and his many, many friends.
