Crews get ready for 2016 Great Northern Fair

The fairgrounds were humming with activity Tuesday as preparations continued for the annual Great Northern Fair.

Crews were erecting tents, setting up displays and getting the seating area ready for fairgoers to eat carnival food.

Linda Ferguson, who has been secretary at the fairgrounds for 22 years, said that each year in the hours leading up to this event, the scene is the same.

“It’s crunch time, and there is just last minute things that you can’t do in advance,” she said.

She said a tent fair organizers got from Tilleman Motor Co. will provide a space where fairgoers can seek relief from the sun while they eat

Dreamworks Carnival Company is expected to provide 15 to 18 rides for this year’s carnival.

Fairgrounds Manager Bob Horne said that there will be rides and attractions for people of all ages.

A bounce house and mechanical bulls meant for children supplied by another vendor will provide additional entertainment.

Two entertainment acts will seek to wow fairgoers with their talents. Jeff Martin, known by his stage name, the Blond Curly-Haired Magician, and Dave Richardson with his West Texas Rattle Snake Show will provide walking and free stage entertainment.

The 4-H Horse Show and the Bigger Better Barn concessions started today at 10 a.m and 11 a.m, respectively.

The fair will open for other activities at noon.

Entrance to the fair is free, as is parking.
