Letter to the Editor: Remember to thank a police officer

Editor,

Please help me thank our local law enforcement on Sept. 17 — National Tell a Police Officer Thank You Day.

The initiative has been started by the Whole Truth Project and Wives Behind the Badge, an organization with a mission to promote a pro-police message every year on the third Saturday of September, just like Havre's Festival Days.

Police officers risk their lives to protect and serve their communities. Chances are, at one time or another, a police officer has been there to assist you or a family member in a time of need. These men and women are the front lines of defense here at home. They never know what they might encounter when they call on duty each shift.

Talk to your friends, neighbors and co-workers about national Tell a Police Officer Thank You Day. If you own or manage a business, please consider doing something special for the officers in your community.

Buy them lunch or a cup of coffee, or give them some other token of your appreciation. Use your signage to get the word out now, and when Sept. 17 comes, use it to say thank-you.

Our group, Havre Police Wives, are putting together goodie bags for local law enforcement — lip balm, hand sanitizer, hand warmers, mini note pads, black pens and candy.

This day is the same day as Havre Festival Days, when our police officers will be working longer hours during the weekend and during the parade to keep us safe. If you would like to donate, please contact Laura, or simply thank them. Please join us!
