HHS sets registration, freshmen orientation

With the school year about to start Wednesday, Aug. 31, Havre High School has some events set to help students get ready for the new year.

Registration is set the week before school starts, and a freshman and new student orientation is slated for the morning of the first day.

Fall registration for the 2016-2017 school year is:

• Seniors, Monday, Aug. 22;

• Juniors, Tuesday, Aug. 23;

• Sophomores, Wednesday, Aug. 24, and

• Freshmen, Thursday, Aug. 25.

For all classes, registration will be from 7 to 11 a.m., closed during lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., registration resuming from 1 to 3 p.m.

The school will hold a freshmen and new student orientation in the morning from 8:15 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, the first day of classes. All freshmen and new students are required to attend this event.

All other students will be required to attend afternoon classes for the rest of the day starting at 12:35 p.m.

Buses will run on regular schedules in the morning and in the afternoon, so students who ride the bus will be responsible to transport themselves to school at noon on the first day only.

Hot lunches will be served.

During registration, all transfer and new students planning to attend Havre High must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. New students registering at Havre High School must have proof of the following immunizations: four TDaP shots, for tetanus, diptheria and pertussis, the last shot after the age of 4; three polio, the last one after the age of 4; two MMRs for measles, mumps an rubella, both after 12 months of age and at least four weeks apart; and two varicella, or chickenpox, vaccines. Those students who have not received a TDaP will require a single dose. Students without proof of these immunizations will not be able to register until proof is on file at the high school. Immunizations are available from the Hill County Health Department at 302 Fourth Ave. or from the student’s physician.

New ID cards for all students are required at the cost of $3 per card. The ID card will allow students admission to all high school events at a reduced charge, or by paying an additional $15 when registering and purchasing the ID card, students are pre-paid for admission to all Havre High School athletic and performing arts events for the 2016-2017 school year.

Also, any parents who would like to purchase the all-season family pass for the entire 2016-17 school year may do so at the cost of $135. The all-season pass is only good for students in grades K-12 It does not cover students who have already graduated from Havre High School. Individual adult passes are available for the entire year at the cost of $55.

Students who are planning to use the hot lunch and breakfast programs may put money on their individual accounts at the time of registration. The daily charge for a student breakfast is $1.80 and hot lunch is offered for $2.55.

Havre High School Yearbooks may also be ordered and purchased at registration at the cost of $50. All students attending HHS are required to purchase a student handbook/planner at the cost of $6. Planners will be distributed to students on the first day of school.

The district said all HHS students who have fines due to any non-returned or damaged textbooks, overdue library books or fines from extra-curricular activities, must pay the fines or return the books at registration.

The district also reminded students of the dress code for the upcoming school year. Shorts and skirts must be no shorter than mid-thigh length and hats are not to be worn inside the school building. Administrators said they appreciate parental help in seeing that students are dressed appropriately when leaving for school. Students will be asked to change clothes if a correction is needed.

All students using district buses for the 2016-2017 school year need to pick up their bus schedule during registration. Students must update their personal bus information and leave it with the office staff. All athletes participating in cross country, football, volleyball, golf or cheerleading need to have their physicals and insurance properly taken care of before the opening day of practice. Physical forms and permission slips to participate can be picked up in the athletic or main office of Havre High School.
