Work underway on new Beaver Creek campground pavilion

A group of volunteers began laying the foundation for a pavilion at a Beaver Creek Park campground Tuesday.

Pete Golden, one of a group of what he estimates are about six or seven volunteers, have, with the support of others, worked to build a 16-by-24 pavilion at Campground 39 in the county park.

Golden said the group recently received approval from the Hill County Park Board.

"They said, 'go for it, make it look nice,'" he said.

He said the project has been under consideration for about three or four weeks.

The group has built pavilions at the Fresno Walleyes Campground, The Railroad Pagers Campground near Campground 39, and Community Effort Pavilion and Campground at Beaver Creek Reservoir, he said.

Golden said Campground 39 is smaller than the other sites the group has worked on, with the capacity for seven or eight people. Campers are not charged a fee to use that campground, he said.

So far, the group has spent about $1,000 out of their own pockets on the project.

Golden said the group is now seeking both monetary and in-kind contributions to cover additional costs.

People who want to make donations can call Golden at 945-0704.
