Hello God...It's me Mara: Dawn

You know, Lord, it was one of those summer nights when drapes are left wide and windows are thrown open. It was one of those summer dawns when the sun peeps over the distant hills about 6 a.m.  One can become so accustomed to what seems normal, that the actual happening of it all is missed.

At this dawning, birds were softly sounding alarms, their melody growing ever stronger until this sleepy head was awake enough to go look out the window. Ah! A wide grey shadow appeared to stretch across the eastern sky. It isn’t really night time or day — it is just very early morning.

Then, as we watch, Lord, the shadow appears to diminish and the birds are in full chorus. No clouds appear to be in the sky which then turns from a grey cast to a lovely light pink. That makes one pause a moment and wonder: How does this dawning appear from the moon’s point of view, or even from Your point of view, Lord.

Gazing across this scene, soon trees, hills and buildings become more definite. Is there no one else around to stand in awe of this scene? Then, in a sudden moment as if controlled by a switch, we listen! The birds cease their song, the sun peeps over the hill, the grey shadow is gone and the city below begins to awaken, or at least one is now aware of the city sounds. The absolute quiet is only for a moment for then the birds begin again; all is well, they seem to say.

Thank You, Lord, for the dawning of a bright new day which is so fittingly described in Psalm 65:8 NIV — “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Thank You, Lord, for another lovely new day.

Love, Mara
