New road being paved to Timber Creek Village

Construction work on the lot between Walmart and Kmart on U.S. Highway 2 is going to create a main access road which is scheduled to be completed on or before September 2017.

The access road, property owner Ron Harmon said, is meant to be a direct road from U.S. Highway 2 to the Timber Creek Village Assisted Living complex. Part of the project is to also add a frontage road, a direct road so people can get from the assisted living complex to Kmart without having to go onto Highway 2, he added.

Harmon said there has been no approval for a frontage road to Walmart, but the national retailer is considering allowing a cart path or a walking path. That also has not been approved.

Hill County Planner Clay Vincent said when the state highway department realigns the highway, it will include a turning lane onto the upcoming access road.

Harmon said the local department of transportation has been very good about giving approvals for the work and a drainage problem has also been fixed. It was a matter of elevation, and with the addition of packed dirt, the lot is now higher than the drainage ditch, he said.

The reason for the roads also is to provide access to future developments on the lots the road runs through, he added.

"We have multiple commercial customers interested in establishing or moving their businesses there," Harmon said.

He would not comment any further on the interested businesses.

Vincent said Harmon had just received an extension on the construction of the road. The original deadline was Oct. 1 But Vincent said Harmon asked for an extension and got another year to complete the project.

Harmon said he plans to have lots ready for development no later than September 2017.
