Wild sweep Nationals in the Ice Dome

The Glacier Nationals of the North American Tier 3 Hockey League didn’t quite get the win they were looking for over the weekend, but they did play more competitive hockey, even if the result was the same.

The Nationals, who hosted Frontier-Division rival Gillette in back-to-back games inside the Havre Ice Dome Friday and Saturday night, dropped the first game 4-1, before falling the next night 13-2.

On Friday, the Wild scored in the first period and added another goal in the second to go up 2-0. Yet, the Nationals responded with their first goal of the year, which was scored by Lindros Beard on a power play and with 20 minutes to play, the score was 2-1 in favor of Gillette.

However, just 3:14 in the third period, the Wild extended their lead to 3-1 and four minutes later, they would add an insurance goal to seal with 4-1 win. Landon Anderson got the win in net for the Wild, while Travis Green was hit the loss for Glacier.

In the second game between the two teams Saturday, the Nationals fell behind 2-0 early in the first period, but got a goal from Gavin Cline with just over five minutes left in the stanza. In the second period however, the Wild turned in an offensive onslaught, scoring a total of six goals, with two of them coming from Nick Stockert, who had a hat trick in the win.

Gavin Cline scored his second goal of the game in the third period, but the Wild added five more goals in the final 20 minutes to make the score 13-2 when it was all said and done. Robbie Brennan earned the win for the Wild. Green was the losing goaltender for the second straight night for Glacier.

The Nationals (0-4) will head to Billings this weekend for two-game set with the Bulls that will start Friday night. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m.
