Blue Pony Naomi Terry inks with Skylight basketball

Another Havre Blue Pony has decided to stay home. This time, it’s Blue Pony senior standout Naomi Terry, who will continue her basketball career by playing for the Montana State University-Northern Skylights starting next fall.

Northern head coach Chris Mouat announced the signing of Terry, a 5-5 Blue Pony guard, Wednesday afternoon.

“Naomi is an outstanding competitor,” Mouat said. “She plays with a ton of passion and is pretty fearless. I really like her toughness, especially on the defensive end of the floor. She’s very aggressive. Naomi had excellent numbers as a junior, and I fully expect them to increase this year. She shoots a good percentage from the 3-point line and isn’t afraid to attack the rim.”

Terry averaged 14 points and eight assists per game as a junior last season while shooting 36 percent from the 3-point line. As a sophomore, Terry was a Second-Team All-Conference selection, and as a junior she was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State. Terry was also a standout on the Blue Pony track and field team, earning All-State honors last year. She is on track to earn four varsity letters in basketball, four in track and field, and three in volleyball.

But basketball is where Terry shines the most, and she becomes the third Blue Pony player in the last three years to join the highly-successful Northern program, joining current Skylights Peyton Filius and Brandy Lambourne.

“Coach (Dustin) Kraske does an outstanding job with the Blue Pony program, and we feel very fortunate to have another one of his players joining us,” Mouat said. “Naomi is set for an exciting senior season, and we’re happy to have her on board, especially this early. She is a really motivated player who works hard on the court and in the classroom. She will be a big addition to MSU-Northern and to our basketball program.”

Terry carries a 3.6 grade point average. She plans on majoring in biology or nursing at MSU-Northern. Naomi is the daughter of Chuck and Teresa Terry.
