Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

Sugarbeeters just keep on winning

There’s now one month left in the high school volleyball season. And on the Hi-Line, the regular season doesn’t even have that much time left.

And that’s why every match, including many last week, are so important.

The week of volleyball started off with the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks sweeping Valier Thursday night. The match was between old 6C West rivals, but the Panthers were really no match for the Hawks, which won by scores of 25-19. 25-19 and 25-23. Khloe Kamerzell had five kills for the Hawks, which also got 13 assists and eight aces from Peyton Hawks.

Thursday night was a tough one for the Harlem Wildcats, as they were beaten by rival Poplar. The Indians won by scores of 25-17, 29-27 and 27-25 in an intense match. Autumn Eagleman had three kills and three assists for the Wildcats, while Kinsey Cornell had three kills and three blocks.

The weekend would be a weekend of tournament play for many area teams, but, it started with the biggest match of the season in the District 6C East. The top two teams, Chinook and North Star went toe-to-toe for five grueling sets Friday night, with the Sugarbeeters coming out on top.

Chinook, which has yet to lose this year, beat the Knights by scores of 25-20, 27-25, 24-26, 19-25 and 15-12, in a marathon match that saw a valiant effort by North Star. Kelsey Mathon had 11 kills for Chinook, while Carrie Hofer added an incredible 34 digs. The Knights got nine kills, four aces, 26 digs and five blocks by Sheridan Spicher in the tough loss.

Meanwhile, Box Elder defeated Big Sandy in a crucial 6C East match the same night as the Bears won by scores of 25-23, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-15. Maddie Wolf Chief paced the Bears with 23 digs and two blocks. Big Sandy got a great effort from Jaylynn Cline, who had three aces and five kills.

As mentioned, many local teams took a break from conference play to take part in mid-season tournaments Saturday. In Fort Benton, Chinook cruised to a tournament title, including a win over Great Falls Central in the championship match. North Star and Fort Benton also played in the Fort Benton Tournament.

CJI also hosted a tournament Saturday, where Northern C powerhouse Belt was the champ. Big Sandy and the host Hawks were also in the field.
