Obituary: Patricia Dawn Sherle

Patricia Dawn Sherle passed away Sept. 12, 2016, after a long illness.

Patricia was born June 2, 1943, in Tralee, West Virginia, to Herbert and Kathlene Aliff.

Patricia married Walter "John" Sherle May 20, 1967. They had three children together; Vicki, Craig and Brian. Her husband was career military and was away for long deployments and temporary duty assignments. Patricia did a remarkable job of raising her children on a sergeant's salary without her husband often being present. In 1978, when her husband became disabled during his service, Patricia embraced the role of full-time caregiver to both her husband and children from that point forward.

Patricia and John moved the family to Havre, Montana, where they finished raising their children. Patricia was a homemaker and devoted caregiver. She dedicated her life to caring for her husband and ailing mother.

Patricia graduated from Herndon High School, in Herndon, West Virginia. She later earned two college degrees in 1985: Bachelor of Technology degree in business and the second a travel management degree. Both were earned from then-Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana.

Patricia was widowed in 1994. Several years later she moved back home to Herndon, where she was able to serve her family once more by caring for her elderly mother until her passing in 2011. In the fall of 2011, Patricia moved to Spokan, Washington, to be closer to her grandchildren. She made one final move to Boise, Idaho, where she was able to spend additional time with more grandchildren.

Patricia was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She served two years as the unit president and four years as the unit secretary/treasurer in District #2, three years as the unit commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and three years as President of the United Veterans Council. She enjoyed her service and received multiple recognitions from each auxiliary.

Patricia had a wonderful sense of humor and loved music. She was a very dependable friend who would always provide a listening ear while finding ways to make you smile. Her fun-loving and caring personality will be missed by both her family and friends alike.

Patricia is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 26 years, John Sherle who passed away in August 1994, and her sister Francis Crane who passed away March 2016.

Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Vicki Lovitt of Roseville California, Craig Sherle of Boise, Idaho, and Brian Sherle of Kennewick Washington; 10 grandchildren, John, Raimee, Nathan, Bethaney, Makayla, Katie, Matthew, Noah, Noelle and Brock; three sisters, Ellen Sue White of Canton, Georgia, Claudine Harrison of Tazewell Virginia, and Christeen Shawver of Tazewell Virginia; and one brother, Donald Aliff of Herdon, West Virginia.

A memorial will be held for Patricia in Herndon, West Virginia, during the late spring of 2017.
