HHS harriers wrap up the regular season

The Havre High cross country teams may not have competed at home during homecoming weekend, but last Thursday in Helena, both Blue Pony teams saw plenty of strong competition at the Helena 7-on-7 Preview Meet.

The Preview meet, which features runners from all classifications, runs separate races with each runner from each team. The No. 1’s race against the No. 1’s and down the line. Therefore, the meet offers great competition across the board and this year, both Havre teams had admirable finishes.

The Havre girls finished 20th in the meet, while the Havre boys finished 23rd. Bozeman High made it a clean sweep, winning both teams title as the girls had nine points and the boys seven.

While the Havre boys team finished in the same place it did a year ago, the Pony girls improved 14 spots from a season ago and a big reason why was the strong showing of Kadia Miller.

Miller, a freshman, finished 15th in the meet against the rest of the No. 1’s, with a time of 19:32. She was beaten mostly by Class AA runners and finished behind just two others from Class A schools. Nicole Parsons finished 20th in the race of No. 2’s, with a time of 21:30. The No. 3 runner, Kaylee Nystrom, was also 20th (21:44), while Amelia Miller, the fourth runner for the Ponies, was 18th after posting a 21:53.

Among the No. 5 runners, Havre’s Melanie Jones finished 29th after ending up with a time of 23:36. The sixth runner, Meggie Zook, ran the course in 25:11, putting her in 30th and in the seventh race, Lily Tally was 23rd after a time of 24:18.

On the boys side of things, the Ponies top runner, Austin Jones, finished 23rd with a time of 17:11. Jakob Keller, the No. 2 runner, was 24th (17:46). Trevor Williams ran in the No. 3 race for Havre and ended up 25th (18:01) and Quinn Reno finished 23rd in the fourth race with a time of 18:10.

The Ponies fifth, sixth and seventh runners, Barrett Kilgore, Noah Azure and Cameron Pleninger, finished 31st (20:22), 25th (19:11) and 20th (19:17) in their respective races.

Both Havre teams will be back in action at the Central A Divisional meet Saturday in Belgrade.
