Parents need a voice

Editor,

As a retired teacher, I am very offended with Common Core.

One of our senators explained it this way: a large package arrived from Washington. The wrappings were torn off, the package removed from the box, but little was discovered regarding the contents. Parents ask to see the tests before their children take them. The answer is no. Perhaps the no comes because the teachers are unaware of the content.

A big question remains: What is being done with the data collected? There is a law in Montana that states that curriculum can not be changed unless there are no less than three meetings with parents present. This didn’t happen. Are we, the parents and grandparents, supposed to smile and think it doesn’t matter?

Only with a vote for Greg Gianforte as governor and Elsie Arntzen as superintendent of public instruction will there be a change. Other states have charter schools and vouchers. We don’t have any choice.

Greg and his wife, Susan, have invested much money and time over the last 20 years educating our youth in computer science. They will be working with our educators to improve the quality of education, as well as helping our children be more prepared for the work force ahead of them.

Since you care about your children, vote for Greg and Elsie. They will give you a voice.
