Election Results: Nov. 8, 2016

With the unofficial results all counted in Hill County, an 18-year-old candidate pulled off an upset.

Democrat Jacob Bachmeier, who filed as a candidate in House District 28 last winter before graduating from Havre High School in the spring, defeated first-term incumbent Rep. Stephanie Hess, R-Havre, 2,206-1,918.

In the Hill County Commission race, Republican Hill County Superintendent of Schools Diane McLean won with 2,455 votes, narrowly defeating Democrat Jim Bedwell, who took 2,159 votes. Independent Ted Solomon won 1,713 of the votes in that race.

The vote to switch Havre to a self-governing charter form of government with a city manager and commission failed 1,435-2,302.

In the mill levies in Hill County, the only one that passed was for the Havre-Hill County Library, which was approved 3,768-2,684.

The county-wide levy the Hill County Commission requested to replace the levy that has paid for the county justice center failed 2,878-3,519, while the cemetery district levy failed 3,024-3,397 and a weed levy failed 2,802-3,609.

In other local races, Republican James O’Hara was leading Democrat Ryan Rominger 3,127-1,195 with 16 of 17 precincts fully counted in the race for House District 27.

In House District 32, Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy, D-Box Elder, who is terming out of his Senate seat, was unopposed.

In the race for his seat in Senate District 16, Democrat Frank Smith of Poplar was leading Rep. G. Bruce Meyers, R-Box Elder, whose seat Windy Boy is taking, 3,655-2,716 with all precincts reported in.

In the race for Senate District 17, Rep. Mike Lang, R-Malta, defeated Democrat Douglas Adolphson of Glasgow 7,711-2,208 with all precincts reported in.

In the race to fill Lang’s seat in House District 33, Republican Casey Knudsen of Malta defeated Democrat Mike Finley of North Havre 3,553-1,052.
