‘60 Minutes’ lands interview with president-elect for Sunday

NEW YORK (AP) — “60 Minutes” has landed the first extensive interview with President-elect Donald Trump.

CBS announced Thursday that Lesley Stahl will interview Trump today at his home in New York City. “60 Minutes” will broadcast the interview, which will focus on Trump’s election, on Sunday night.

Stahl will also speak to Trump’s family, including incoming first lady Melania and children Ivanka, Tiffany, Eric and Donald Jr.

The president-elect met with President Obama Thursday at the White House.

Aaron Sorkin tells family ‘hate given hope’ by Trump win

President-elect Donald Trump’s victory has prompted Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin to pen an open letter to his daughter and his ex-wife in which he slams the Republican and vows “the battle isn’t over.”

In the letter published online Wednesday by Vanity Fair, Sorkin says “hate was given hope” by Trump’s win. He calls Trump’s supporters white nationalists, sexists, racists and buffoons.

Sorkin did tell his family, “America didn’t stop being America last night and we didn’t stop being Americans and here’s the thing about Americans: Our darkest days have always —always — been followed by our finest hours.”

The creator of “The West Wing” is an outspoken liberal and has sometimes used his projects to share political viewpoints.

Ifill, Sawyer absent from network election coverage

NEW YORK (AP) — Two broadcast journalists expected to have roles in their networks’ election coverage — Gwen Ifill and Diane Sawyer — were instead missing from their PBS and ABC teams.

PBS announced last week that Ifill, the “NewsHour” co-anchor with Judy Woodruff, would be taking unspecified time off for health reasons. Ifill, 61, was out for two months last spring. She has not revealed the nature of her illness.

Sawyer, the former “World News Tonight” anchor, was announced last week as part of ABC News’ elections coverage. A handful of retired or semi-retired anchors, including CBS’ Bob Schieffer, NBC’s Tom Brokaw and ABC’s Charles Gibson, were on the air election night.

Sawyer was backstage at ABC’s Times Square studio Tuesday but never made it on the air. ABC’s plan was for Sawyer to appear after the race had been called to offer historical perspective, but as it got later in the evening and a winner hadn’t been declared, she left, spokeswoman Julie Townsend said.

ABC called the race for Trump as he gave his victory speech, near 3 a.m. EST.

Transient sentenced for trespassing at Kendall Jenner’s home

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A transient convicted of trespassing outside model and reality television star Kendall Jenner’s home has been sentenced to time served in a Los Angeles jail.

Shavaughn McKenzie was sentenced Thursday to 178 days in a county jail, which after credits for good behavior will allow him to be released later in the day.

Los Angeles city attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan said the sentence was the maximum that could have been imposed. McKenzie was convicted last month of trespassing at Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home in August.

Jurors acquitted the 26-year-old of the more serious charge of misdemeanor stalking.

Jenner testified during the trial that she was frightened when McKenzie followed her car into her driveway.

McKenzie’s lawyer has said the Florida native’s mother plans to move him back east.

Reality stars Rob Kardashian, Blac Chyna welcome baby girl

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Reality stars Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian have welcomed their first child together.

A representative for the couple said the baby girl named Dream was born Thursday in Los Angeles.

She is the first child for Kardashian, 29, who is the younger brother of Kim Kardashian. Blac Chyna has a 3-year-old son from a previous relationship.

The couple announced their engagement in April and pregnancy in May. The E! network said in June that it would track their relationship and baby preparations in a reality show called “Rob & Chyna,” which premiered in September. The most recent episode aired last month.

The network’s cameras captured Dream’s birth Thursday and promised to “bring viewers into the delivery room” during the “Rob & Chyna Baby Special” episode set to air Dec. 18.

Kardashian also has been featured on his family’s reality show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” which also airs on E!
