Plenty of Blue Ponies honored in football

10 Havre High football players named Central A All-Conference; Two earn Class A All-State honors

Even though the 2016 season did not end the way the Havre High football team wanted it to, the Blue Ponies still had plenty to be proud of and that’s backed up by the number of players it placed on the Central A All-Conference and Class A All-State squads.

The Ponies, who finished the 2016 season with a 5-4 record, good enough for third in the Central A conference, ended up with 10 players earning Central A All-Conference honors at 17 different positons.

Not surprisingly, the player who received the most honors for Havre was senior Jase Stokes, who played both running back and linebacker for the Ponies and was highly effective at both. At linebacker, the senior earned Class A All-State honors as well as First-Team All-Conference honors in the Central A.

Stokes ended the year with 82 total tackles, to go along with one sack, two fumble recoveries and one interception. Yet, the Montana Tech commit also put up good numbers on the ground, rushing for 861 yards and 14 touchdowns en route to being named Second-Team All-Conference at running back. He was also named Second-Team All-Conference as both a punter and kicker.

The only other Blue Pony who earned postseason honors on both sides of the ball was senior Isaac Warp, who hauled in 29 passes for 414 yards and three touchdowns this season on his way to being named First Team All-Conference and Class A All-State at wide receiver. Defensively, Warp was named Second-Team All-Conference at safety after notching a team-high three interceptions.

The other seniors that took home accolades for the Ponies were Jared Sienkowski, who earned Second-Team All-Conference honors on the offensive line, Chris Gabrielsen, who made Second-Team All-Conference at defensive end, as well as Dane Flammond and Nate Korb, who each did the same at outside linebacker and safety, respectively.

Outside of Warp and Stokes, Tyler Schaub was the other Blue Pony to earn First-Team All-Conference honors, as he was voted in as an offensive lineman, despite missing the last few games of the season due to injury.

Junior quarterback Trey Murphy was also named Second-Team All-Conference after throwing for 1,161 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his first season as a starter.

Fellow junior Ivar Aageson was named Second-Team All-Conference at wide receiver after racking up 312 receiving yards and five touchdowns, while Tony Antley was the only sophomore to earn All-Conference honors and was named to the Second Team at center.
