Hello God, it's me, Mara

A pig?

You know, Lord, many years ago Billy Graham wrote a story about a pig which went something like this: A farmer brought a pig into the house, gave the pig a bath, polished his hooves and even put some sweet smelling Chanel No. 5 on him. Things were looking good, so the old farmer put a ribbon around his neck, and put the piggy in the living room. The pig looked fine. He made a nice companionable pet — for a few minutes. But, as soon as the door was opened, the pig left the living room and jumped into the first mud puddle that he could find. Why? Because he was still a pig at heart! His nature had not changed. The farmer may have changed the pig’s looks on the outside, but he couldn’t do anything about the pig’s insides; inwardly, the pig was still a pig.

So it goes with folks. We can take a man — dress him up, put him in the front row in church; he almost looks like a saint. This man may fool even his very best friends — for a while, but then put him in his office or in the club on Saturday night, and you’ll see his true nature come out again. Folks asked. “Why does he act this way?” WHY? Outwardly he looks great, but inside, his nature has not been changed. He has not been born again.

You know, Lord, there are times when, we, man or woman, we all debase our Christian walk; none of us are perfect! There are times when we slip and slide right into the mire. But we can count on You, Lord, that when we call on You, You will cleanse us and strengthen us.

We read  in Job 34:21 (TLB), “God carefully watches the goings on of all mankind … .”

Thank You, Lord, that You care so much for us.

Love, Mara
