Havre’s oldest historic home will be open for its annual Christmas at the Cottage celebration Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. each day, its owner said in a press release.

The historic Boone/Dalrymple home, located at 132 Third St. in Havre, is decorated for the holidays and its owner, Emily Mayer, has invited the public for an exclusive look into the only historic home open for public visitation during the holiday season.

“Christmas is a time when many people reflect on history and our traditions to the past,” Mayer said in a press release. “When you step across the threshold into Havre’s remarkable past by visiting our beloved cottage, we feel this is a wonderful way for families to explore old traditions, while making their own tradition of visiting this very special home important to Havre’s history.”

The Boone/Dalrymple’s public rooms have been decorated for Christmas in Victorian style. The Front Porch, Grand Entry, Parlor and Dining Room each have their own theme, ranging from mid-century modern inspired to featuring the traditional honoring of the White House Christmas theme of “The Gift of the Holidays.”

Planning for Christmas at the Cottage starts in March. Over several months, each room is planned, decorations are gathered and crafts made. Touring the private home offers the chance for participants to connect with Havre’s diverse history and is a complement to offerings at other local historic sites.

Cost to attend the event is a free-will offering, which will be used for foundation stabilization for the neighboring historic Mathews home, site of the High Line Heritage House Museum. Refreshments will be offered.
