Dee was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Hamilton, Montana, to Vernon Azure and Clara Gardipee. He was adopted in 1960 by Zane and Betty Young and was raised in Idaho and California. Dee later moved to Spokane, Washington, where he attended high school.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1967, serving until 1970, when he was honorably discharged.

Dee moved to Montana to find his biological parents and remained in Montana for a short time, getting to know his biological family. Dee had a gypsy soul, and loved to travel. He worked at various jobs over the years in many different states, including on the oil rigs, for the U.S. Postal Service, as an ambulance driver, and as a firefighting crew boss. The whole time, Dee was a jack-of-all-trades, helping with drywalling, painting and carpentry. Throughout his life, he worked as an artist, making wood carvings and jewelry. His passion was art.

Dee was a kind, loving, and generous man who enjoyed woodcarving, making jewelry, collecting semi-precious stones, working with silver, and listening to the blues and rock 'n' roll. He had a green thumb, able to grow almost anything. Dee loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping. He adored his children, grandchildren and his dog Rufus, and possessed a fantastic sense of humor. He had a constant thirst for knowledge and was a very respected man among his peers.

Dee was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Zane and Betty Young; his biological parents, Vernon Azure and Clara Gardipee; his brother, Vernon James Azure; and his sisters, Zanette Charles and Bridgette Young.

He is survived by his children, Adrian John Young of Colorado, Cornelia (David) Taylor of Polson, Ryan "Che" (Nikki) Young of Washinton, and Ambrosia Ashley (Mike Seaton) Young and Vernon Marshall James (Pricilla) Young, all of Rocky Boy; his 10 grandchildren; his great-grandson; his brother, Lester (Kim) Young of California; his sisters, Anna Azure of St. Ignatius and Carla (Freddie) Ramirez Sr. of Idaho; his beloved dog, Rufus; his former wife, Verlas "Minnie" (Brian Webb) Chief Stick; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
