Speech invites people to judge at divisionals

Press release

The Havre High School speech and debate team is hosting the Class A eastern divisional tournament Saturday, Jan. 21, and is inviting people to judge at the meet, hosted at Montana State University-Northern.

“We have been contacting judges, but some people’s contact information has changed over the years, and we don’t want to miss anyone whose name is not on the list who would like to judge,” said head Havre coach Tim Leeds. “This should be a good tournament, with lots of good competition.”

Competitors from all 11 Class A Central and Eastern division speech, debate and drama schools will vie at the tournament for the chance to qualify for the Class A state tournament, hosted this year in Laurel the following weekend.

The Havre team is holding two judges clinics in the Havre High School library. Both start at 6 p.m., one Monday, Jan. 16 and the second Wednesday, Jan. 18. Leeds said the coaching staff at the clinics will explain the events, describe the tournament process and show how the ballots are used in the different events.

The tournament has five rounds, starting at 9 a.m. with the last round at 3:30 p.m., with all Class A speech, drama and debate events at the meet.

Leeds said people can go to a Facebook page set up for the tournament at Facebook.com/havredivisional for more information and to find a link to an online registration. People can also find the online registration directly at http://bit.ly/2jpr4XJ or email Leeds at [email protected] for more information.

The following weekend, Friday and Saturday Jan, 27-28, Chinook HIgh School is hosting the Class BC state speech, debate and drama tournament, also on Northern’s campus. People interested in that tournament can visit its Facebook page at Facebook.com/state2017.
