We hear endlessly today about tolerance, but too often that means tolerance according to one’s own definition. Is tolerance displayed when one’s principled (as opposed to bigoted) position is subjected to public shaming through a letter to the editor? Would anyone who actually knows Brian Barrows consider him as someone who hates — anyone — in any sense of the word?
