PACE would help people on energy

My name is Wil Oliver. I am the sales manager for Remote Power Systems of Stevensville, Montana. We have been serving Montana home and business owners with solar, wind, and other energy products for over 14 years.

We are excited about legislation that will be introduced in 2017 that will enable private financing to help Montanans save money on utilities, create local jobs, grow businesses and invest in Main Street, Montana.

We encounter many customers who would like to install a solar system, as well as newer windows or a more efficient HVAC system. However, most people struggle to afford the up-front cost, even though the projects would save them money over the long term. As a result, many cost-saving projects go undone.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Property Assessed Clean Energy — PACE — uses private capital from banks and investors to fund the up-front cost of energy efficiency upgrades, water conservation measures, and renewable energy installations to existing buildings. Like a Special Improvement District for sidewalks or sewers, the financing is repaid as an assessment on the property’s regular tax bill over a term of up to 20 years. 

This tried-and-true program is enabled in 33 states. In fact we have used PACE for clients we have outside of Montana. It is easy and simple way to finance projects that improve our homes and communities.
