Judge rules tribe can access some money

Boucher says BEH can't freeze state, federal funds

State District Court Judge Daniel Boucher ruled in favor of the Chippewa Cree Tribe  Wednesday, saying that the tribe can access certain funds within their tribal accounts, as long the banks can determine the money being accessed is from federal or state funds.

BEH Gaming Ltd. of Florida had frozen tribal funds after Boucher ruled in February that the tribe owed BEH more than $25 million.

The tribe announced last week that it would likely stop some payments, reduce services and lay off some workers due to the freezing of assets. The tribe said BEH had frozen assets that were not coming...
