Locals ready to plow with moldboards

Some local equipment owners who like older models are inviting people to come out Saturday east of Havre to see how fields were plowed in years gone by.

“We enjoy the old farm tractors and like to give people the chance to see how their grampa used to do it,” Dennis Laumeyer said.

Laumeyer said collectors of old equipment will be plowing north of the railroad tracks at the old rest stop just east of Pork Chop Hill. A crossing goes across the tracks at the back of the rest area, he said.

Collectors will be bringing tractors from the 1950s or earlier, hooking them up to moldboard plows and plowing from the early morning through the afternoon or evening.

“We’ll be all day out there,” Laumeyer said.

He added that people are welcome to bring out their own farm equipment, cars and trucks to show while the plowing is going on.

He said there is no special reason the group decided to start doing “plow day.”

“We’re just a bunch of guys who like old tractors,” Laumeyer said.
