North Star first-graders hold Grandparents' Day

North Star Elementary holds Grandparents Day

Press release

Jan Donoven's first-grade class hosted Grandparents' Day at North Star Elementary School in Gildford Thursday, with 34 grandparents coming to the activities.

"I've taught for over 30 years and have hosting a grandparents' day for as long as I remember," Donoven said. "It is so rewarding to see kids spending a day like this with their grandparents. I hope it will be a special memory for everyone."

The event saw 34 grandparents coming to see their grandchildren, with coffee and donuts served and pictures taken. The day's activities started with a spring program including poem reading, singing and performing the play "Professor Long-Ears Saves the Day."

The grandparents traveling the farthest to come to Grandparents' Day were Walt and Lily Meyers and Chuck and Barb Myers.

The grandparents there with the most grandchildren were Lowell and Mary Lou Miller and Jodi Warren, while the youngest grandparent was Kyle Spencer and the person with the distinction of being the eldest grandparent present was Verda Evans.

The child with the most grandparents attending was Josie Stevenson.

The grandparents earning the honor of playing the naughtiest tricks ion their day were Stu Smith and Ron Spicher.

The students and their grandparents did an art project and other activities together, and Lori Tollefson and Denise Vosen prepared a chicken dinner served at the event.

The students closed out the day by singing to their grandparents.
