Fire displaces family

Fire department officials are investigating the source of a house fire that caused thousands of dollars of damage and has displaced the family living in the home, Fire Chief Mel Paulson said this morning.

The fire was called in Thursday at 3:53 p.m. from a caller on the 900 Block of Seventh Street and the Fire Department responded with an eight-man crew. The fire was extinguished, but not before anywhere between $25,000 to $50,000 worth of damage was caused, Paulson said.

The damage, Paulson said, was mostly on the exterior, but because of the smoke damage, the family is currently not in the home. The repairs, Paulson said, should be feasible and the family able to get back in the home.

Paulson said no one living in the home was hurt nor were any of the responding fire fighters. They are looking into what caused the fire.

“It’s undetermined,” he said.
