Chatting birds

You know, Lord. watching birds is entertaining and amusing. After cleaning and filling the bird bath, it was interesting to watch which of about a dozen different kinds of birds who flitter back and forth over here, enjoying trees, apples, water, whatever, which ones would be first to come to bathe or drink. Several birds of various species stopped in for a quick drink, and then, a robin and a sparrow came about the same time. They took a sip, looked up and around, took another sip and then it was almost like they began chatting to each other. An old-time scene flashed by — like when we were kids back home. Our garden had a number of tress; scores of birds were chatting, singing, flitting back and forth. It was fascinating to listen to the various ‘songs’. Our favorites were probably the red-winged blackbirds and the meadowlarks. That was long ago, but back to this day.

While the Robin and the Sparrow appeared to be chatting, they paused, and appeared to be looking right and left and up and down, watching neighbors and traffic, an old poem came to mind, a copy that a friend had recently sent. It was written by Annie Elizabeth Cheney (1847-1916), entitled “Overheard in an Orchard: “Said the Robin to the Sparrow, “I would really like to know why those anxious human beings rush around and worry so.” Said the Sparrow to the Robin, “Friend, I think that it must be that they have no Heavenly Father such as cares for you and me.”

Reading Matthew 6:26: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them Are you not much more valuable than they?”  Thank You, Lord, for a visual lesson right here in Love, Mara
