Solomon, Seigel file for re-election

The 2017 Havre city elections kicked off Tuesday with two candidates filing for re-election in the nonpartisan elections.

Havre City Judge Virginia Seigel and Mayor Tim Solomon filed as candidates Thursday.

Solomon, who is serving his second term as mayor, said in a press release that public service has always been a significant part of his life and he wants to try to make Havre an even better place to live and raise a family.

"We have made significant progress over the past eight years in how the city functions, and I want to keep that going," he said in the release. From annexation, to upgrades to our wastewater treatment plant, to housing construction at Buffalo Court and Antelope Court, to better relations with Hill County, I think our community is in a pretty good spot," Solomon noted.  "Overall, the City of Havre has been a very good steward of public funds, while at the same time maintaining a high quality of life we enjoy here in what I believe is a wonderful community - a community that my family has been a part of for five generations."

Seigel was not available for comment this morning.

The other openings in the city election had no candidates Thursday, the first day to file.

The seats open are in Ward One, now held by Terry Lilletvedt, two seats in Ward Two, a four-year term for the seat held by Karen Swenson and a two-year term to fill out the position of Brian Barrows, who resigned April 3.

The four-year seat in Ward Three held by Jay Pyette also is up for election, as is the four-year seat in Ward Four held by Matthew Boucher.
