Former Light LaVon Myers named Box Elder head coach

The Box Elder boys basketball team has a new head coach, but it's a face familiar to the Bears and to the Hi-Line. On Friday, former MSU-Northern All-American LaVon Myers was named to succeed head coach Jeremy MacDonald as head coach of the boys basketball program in Box Elder.

"It's a great opportunity," Myers said. "The foundation has already been laid thanks to what Jeremy brought to the program. I just want to continue the tradition and help our kids get better. Help lead Box Elder to divisional and state titles."

Myers started his journey to Havre at El Camino Compton Community College, where he averaged 23.4 points per game as a sophomore. He was recruited to Northern by Lights' coach Shawn Huse and played on two straight Frontier Conference championship teams, averaging better than 11 points both seasons. He earned Frontier All-Conference honors and Honorable Mention NAIA All-American honors his senior season.

Myers also served as a graduate assistant for Huse and the Lights for several seasons, before taking his talents to Box Elder, where he coached under MacDonald in several capacities, including the junior varsity coach the last several seasons. Myers has been front and center for a lot of success in Box Elder, including Class C state championships in 2014 and 2016, as well as five straight District 9C championships. Myers teachers health and physical education at Box Elder.

Myers takes over for MacDonald, who stepped down last month, after leading the Bears to a record of 128-23 in six seasons. MacDonald was recently announced as the new Superintendent of Schools for Box Elder.
