From Havre Area Chamber of Commerce

Havre Area Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Committee is offering people the opportunity to learn about Havre’s history by experiencing it.

Havre locals will bring historical attractions to life for its fourth annual Living History Saturday, June 3.

People can tour the grandest and once largest military post in Montana and one of the largest in the U.S., Fort Assinniboine, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a display of hides and guns. Each hour a cannon will be fired by the Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club. A special rate of $5 per adult and $3 for people 18 and younger is being offered that day.

Havre Beneath the Streets underground tours come to life on Living History Day when people can take the tour and see the Old West at its best in the Sporting Eagle Saloon. People can partake in treats, including shopping at Gourley Brothers Bakery for a homemade pastry made fresh, trying a meat sample from Havre’s Meat Market and satisfying a sweet tooth with a choice of old-fashioned penny candy available to buy at Holland and Son Mercantile. Saturday’s tours will start at 9 a.m. and will run every half hour with the last tour starting at 4 p.m. Appointments for tours are welcomed. A special tour rate of $8 a person will be available.

People can go to Wahkpa Chu’gn Buffalo Jump and take a walk back in history. The jump is the only one where people can view artifacts in their natural state.
