MSU-N rodeo teams finish the season strong

The Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams wrapped up the 2016-17 season with the Big Sky Region Rodeo last weekend in Great Falls.

The rodeo, held at the Four Seasons Arena, capped the annual spring season, and the Northern women’s team finished in sixth place. The Skylights were led by Tori Blea, who placed sixth in the goat tying with a time of 15.6.

On the men’s side, the Lights got a stellar third-place finish from Toren Andreasen and Yancy Hawley in the team roping.

The Lights finished the Big Sky season in fourth place in the Big Sky Region, behind only Northwest College, UM-Western and Montana State. Northern amassed 1,839 points on the year.

Tate Benson had a big season for the Lights, finishing in fourth place in the tie down roping, and fifth with Tucker Hould in the team roping. Benson would up 11th in the Men’s All-Around. Hawley placed ninth in the saddle bronc riding, while George Marcenko was ninth in the tie down roping.

The Skylights saw Calonna Slade finish sixth in the barrel racing, while Tara Stimpson was 15th. The Northern women finished the season in sixth place in the Big Sky Region Standings.
