Havre man accused of shooting stepfather

A Havre man is accused of shooting his stepfather with a .22-caliber rifle Saturday, court documents say.

Triston Ehry, 19, is being held in the Hill County Detention Center on pending charges of attempted deliberate homicide, partner or family member assault, tampering with evidence, obstructing a peace officer, violations of conditions release and issuance of arrest warrant.

Court documents say a woman called 911 for Havre Police Saturday at 12:33 a.m. to report that her son had accidentally shot her husband.

Officers and medical personnel responded and found the man with a wound to his right trapezius muscle on his upper back.

Ehry was found hiding naked in a storage area of the home, the documents say. Officers drew their guns and pointed a taser and ordered him to come out.

The man who was shot said he walked around the corner of his home when he heard a single gunshot and felt a pain in his shoulder. He then went inside.

His wife said she saw a shirtless person on the hill behind their home, and after yelling at him, the man, Ehry, walked down the hill and toward their house holding a rifle. Ehry asked them not to call police because he didn’t want to go to jail, documents say.

When interviewed by a detective with the Havre Police Department, Ehry said it was his “doppelganger” who shot his stepfather. Ehry later agreed with the detective that doppelgangers were not real.

The woman said Ehry and his stepfather had an argument earlier in the week. The woman said the argument escalated and Ehry threw knives at the man and hit him with a butterknife, documents say.

Ehry was being held without bond this morning in the Hill County Detention Center.
