Kathleen was born July 2, 1945, in Havre, to Patrick and Julia (WolfWalker) Stump. She was raised in a very traditional home in Rocky Boy, attending school there. Following her school years, she was blessed with four children. Over the years, Kathleen held many jobs because her talents were very broad. She loved her Cree culture and felt it was paramount that the culture be preserved and taught to the younger generation. She wrote four traditional stories for children which will be published this fall in both English and the Cree language. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she supported them in every way possible.

Kathleen loved to bead, and was very talented at it. She continued the Cree culture by teaching her grandchildren their culture and the traditional way of life. She enjoyed gambling, picking berries, outdoor activities. She was always looking for ways to help, whether at her home or at others'.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Mary (Black Tongue) Stump; maternal grandparents, Thomas Indian and Elizabeth WolfWalker Good Runner; parents, Pat and Julia Stump; adopted mother, Mary Lodge Pole; daughters Sonya Sunchild and Sylvia Russette; sisters Carmella Not Afraid and Joyce Stump, Dorothy (Chinese) Crane, and Cynthia Murie; brothers Leslie, Leon, Merle, Darrell, Patrick Jr., Bill, Vidal and George Stump; and her nieces Mary Stump and Heather Not Afraid.

She is survived by her son, Huck Sunchild; daughter, Janet (Paul) Chase; 16 grandchildren including Harlen Bell (Caitlin Standing Rock) whom she raised as her son; 11 great-grandchildren; special niece Julie Not Afraid (Danny Three Irons) of Billings; sisters Valeria (McKinley) Iron and Jobyna Stump of Billings, and Ethelene Stump of Lame Deer; brothers Glen (Betty) Stump and Father Pete Guthneck; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and family all over the U.S. and Canada. She had many, many relatives and friends whom she adored. She was loved everywhere she went.
