Obituary - Paul Chagnon

Paul Chagnon passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Great Falls Clinic Hospital due to natural causes at the age of 91.

A viewing will be held today, Monday, June 19, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Fifth Avenue Christian Church with burial to follow at El Rancho Del Rio Family Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Havre Food Bank or to the charity of the donor's choice. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Paul was born in Havre March 30, 1926, to Leon and Josephine Chagnon. He was the youngest of nine children. He attended St Jude's Catholic school and went on to Havre High School. In 1955 Paul married Carol Gould and together they had five children.

Paul worked as a carpenter and rancher most of his life. He owned and operated Lee's Texaco and cafe, which he expanded into a bulk fuel station and U-Haul Dealership during those years. He sold the business in 1973 and returned to carpentry. He was very proud of the fact that he had worked on building the schools in the community, many of the downtown buildings, Northern Montana Hospital and remodeling the El Toro Motel; he also built many homes. He was president of the Carpenters Union for many years. Paul retired in 2001. He loved to tell stories, go fishing, camping and enjoyed bowling.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Fred, Bill and Lee, and sisters, Ida Patera, Helen Anderson, and Minnie Davey.

Paul is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Leon Chagnon (Sandy Boardman), Les Chagnon, Candy Chagnon (Dave Anderson), Carla Hutton, and Lindon (Nita) Chagnon; grandchildren, Brandelle McIntosh (Dave Perkins), Jesse Hutton (Kristen McGloin), Levi Chagnon, Sierra (Thomas) Cornelius, Nicholas (Samantha) Chagnon, Lisa (Dustin) Horinek, Michael (Megan) Butcher; four great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Jocelyn Horinek and Joel and Simon Cornelius; sister Laura Sheehy; and many nieces and nephews.
