The Northern Agricultural Research Center, located at Fort Assinniboine southwest of Havre, is holding its annual Field Day Thursday, June 29.

The day begins with registration at 3:30 p.m. with tours of the facility and various agricultural research projects at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Dinner is set for 7 p.m., with the field day scheduled to end at 8 p.m.

Montana State University's NARC, established in 1915 on the grounds of the fort that was decommissioned in 1911, provides cutting-edge research on both livestock and crops.

It uses 3,000 acres at the main facility with an additional 3,960 acres of grazing land in the Bear Paw Mountains, the NARC website says. The center also works on test plots on farms and ranches in the area, and A local advisory board made up of area producers and industry representatives from the five surrounding counties, provides guidance on NARC research priorities.

In the last decade, it has added facilities including a new building to house laboratories and offices.
