Chinadles honored by Weather Service for length of service

From National Weather Service

Allen and Georgia Chinadle, official weather observers for the National Weather Service, were presented with a 15-year Length of Service Award for taking and reporting daily observations that consist of daily precipitation, snowfall and snow depth.

The Chinadle's weather station, located north of Hingham, is part of the NWS Climate Cooperative Observer Program that comprises about 10,000 volunteers across the U.S. The station was started in 1951 in Hingham and was moved to the Chinadle's in 1983.

The National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program is truly the nation's weather and climate observing network of, by and for the people.

Volunteers take observations on farms, in urban and suburban areas, and at National Parks, seashores and mountaintops. The data are truly representative of where people live, work and play.
