Hot nights at the Bear Paw Roundup

PRCA cowboys, cowgirls cash in in Chinook

It was a toasty two nights inside the arena at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Chinook. And some of the cowboys and cowgirls competing in the 19th annual Bear Paw Roundup were hot, as well.

The annual PRCA event came to Chinook for performances Thursday and Friday nights, as part of the Blaine County Fair, and some of the top cowboys and cowgirls on the PRCA circuit were in attendance.

National Finals Rodeo standout Parker Breding was among the top riders to compete in Chinook, and he captured the bull riding with an 82 on Sinister Grin. Connor Murnion was second with a 74. Breding is currently one of two Montanans ranked in the Top 50 in the world in bull riding.

Troy Vaira won the bareback riding with a 76 on Montego Bay, while another Montana standout, Cavan Wrzesinski was third. Chase Brooks of Deer Lodge, currently ranked 39th in the world standings, won the saddle bronc riding with 83 on Party Crowd.

Shelby Blixt turned in an outstanding time of 17.66 to win the barrel racing, while up and coming star Shelby Rasmussen, the daughter of former Havre resident Flint Rasmussen, finished third.

Jordan Holland won the steer wrestling, while Max Kuttler and Kory Mytty won the team roping. Chad Johnson was first in the tie-down roping.

The rodeo action now shifts to Havre for the Great Northern Open Rodeo Thursday night, and the first ever Cody Four Souls Bull Riding Event Friday night.
