Obituary - Annabelle Lodge Thomas, niih-inaat-ithaa (Windy Woman)

Annabelle Lodge Thomas, niih-inaat-ithaa (Windy Woman) of Hays, 88, died at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre Aug. 4, 2017.

She was born April 5, 1929, at the Fort Belknap Agency to Fredrick V. and Lillian (Arms) Lodge.

Annabelle was a proud full-blooded member of the Aaniiih Tribe. She loved her culture and worked hard to support her family after her husband, Albert, died in 1986. She was a devoted to her Catholic faith and said the rosary every night before bed. She loved camping, cooking at family gatherings and visiting family and friends, and she dearly loved her home.

She was preceded in death by grandfather Charlie Arms; her husband, Albert K. Thomas; her son, Albert C. Thomas; her sisters, Birdie Mae Shortman, Lillian Lodge, Marie Bear, Joann Favel and Olive Schmockel; her brothers, Buster and Bennie Lodge; and four grandchildren, Ranae, Leandra, Jamie and Joyce.

Annabelle is survived by her daughters, Judy Thomas, Myrtle and Doris Thomas; sons, Louis, Frank, Howard and Eric Thomas; 21 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

A wake will begin at the St. Paul's Rec Center at 5 p.m. and the rosary to begin at 7 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 7, 2017. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at the St. Paul's Mission Church in Hays, Montana. Burial will follow at the Thomas Family Cemetery.
