Obituary - Sophia Viola (Moser) Brownell

Sophia Viola (Moser) Brownell of Pendroy, 96, passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at the Pondera Medical Center in Conrad. 

Viola was born at the family farm six miles southeast of Agawam, Montana, to Adolf and Johanna Moser Jan. 13, 1921. Viola was the seventh child in a family of eight.

Viola married her soul mate, Robert, Aug. 22, 1940. Robert passed away Oct. 28, 2011. Robert and Viola were married 71 years. 

Viola was a farmer/rancher, homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Viola and Robert enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dancing and just being together. Viola, most of all, enjoyed baking for all her children and grandchildren. Viola always had cookies in the cookie jar and in the freezer waiting for her family to enjoy.

Survivors include sons, Larry Brownell of Conrad and Richard (Carol) Brownell and David (Linda) Brownell of Pendroy; daughter, Kathleen (Allan) Woeppel of Havre; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren (and one on the way), three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister Margaret Rigby of Conrad; sister-in-law MaryEllen Brownell of Conrad; and a dear friend, Barbara Brownell of Conrad.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Adolf and Johanna (Gemar)Moser; brothers, William, Gustava and Rudolph Moser; sisters Edna Nelson, Freda Maxwell and Ella Wiest; and daughter-in-law Kathleen Stokes Brownell.

Cremation has already taken place and public graveside services will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Conrad Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the burial at the Conrad Moose Hall.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made to Pondera Medical Center Community Memorial Garden care of Joann Cobb, Pondera Arts Council Orpheum Theater, Conrad Depot Society care of Bert Rigby, Conrad Scholars: Brownell Family Scholarship in care of Jim Meiers, or to one's choice.
