MSU-N runners set to host Battle of the Border

This past weekend in Bozeman, both the Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s cross country teams got to test their skills against some of the top programs in the region.

The meet, which was hosted by Montana State, included the Bobcats, the University of Montana, as well as Utah, North Dakota, Idaho State, Northern Colorado and Montana State University-Billings. Carroll College joined MSU-N as the only Frontier Conference team at the meet.

Facing such tough competition, both the Lights and Skylights finished eighth, but did have some solid individual performances. Idaho State won the women’s team title, while Montana took home the men’s crown.

Rachel David led a strong effort for the Skylights as she finished 39th overall with a time of 19:41. Ashley McCready also had a solid outing by finishing 44th (20:11). Nicole Parsons finished 49th, with a time of 22:35, while Courtney Cota was 50th (23:39). McKenna Barkus finished 51st (23:50) and Breck Don was 52nd (24:44) to round things out for MSU-N.

As far as the Lights were concerned, Kai Krumwiede was the top individual performer, finishing 42nd with a time of 28:58. Luke Karnauskas, a Havre native, wasn’t far behind (44th, 29:24). Beau Hyatt also had a solid day (47th, 30:05). Gabe Hallock also finished 49th (30:25) for the Lights and Amos Taiswa was 50th (30:28). The other finisher was Riley Dennis (51st, 31:01).

Both the Lights and Skylights will be at home Saturday for their first and only home meet of the season run against Central Wyoming College at the Prairie Farms golf course.
