Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Grace Litzinger, Regan Lammers, Havre High Golf

HHS's senior duo loves to tee it up

Golf is a tough sport. It can be humbling, even maddening. No matter how much you play, it seems to always be tough.

Havre High seniors Grace Litzinger and Regan Lammers know plenty about that. They've been playing the tough sport for a long time now, and through it all, have been part of a resurgence in Blue Pony girls golf under head coach Brett Gilman.

Both Litzinger and Lammers will be four-year letter winners at the end of this season - a season that's quickly winding down. Litzinger has played in all three Class A state tournaments for the Blue Ponies, while Lammers has played in two.

But more so than just the competition, the senior duo have been a consistent part of a Havre girls team that has steadily risen the ranks of Class A golf in recent years. And with two tournaments left in 2017, and the last two of Liztinger's and Lammers' careers, the Havre High girls are hoping for their best finish yet.

The Blue Ponies head to the Central A Divisional tournament Saturday in Livingston, where Gilman says the Ponies have a chance to surprise some people.

"If we play up to our capabilities, and we're constant, our girls have a great chance to surprise a lot of people," Gilman noted.

And that includes Lammers and Litzinger, who are playing in their fourth and final Central A tourney. Before the Blue Ponies left for Livingston, the Havre Daily News caught up with the senior golfing duo for five questions.

HDN: What's the best part about playing Blue Pony high school golf?

Lammers: "For me, it's all the great courses we get to play on. I don't get to play a lot of those courses outside of high school golf. So that's my favorite part."

HDN: What's your favorite club in your bag?

Litzinger: "My 7-iron. I hit it decently most of the time. It's reliable."

Lammers: "It's my 6-iron. I use it on every hole I play."

HDN: What are the Ponies' goals for the rest of the season?

Litzinger: "First, to have fun. We have to make sure we have fun. Second, for all of us to place at divisionals and get to state."

HDN: How does the team achieve those goals on the course?

Lammers: "We have to go out and all of us play our best golf of the season at divisionals."
