Checks stolen from Chippewa Cree organizations

The Chippewa Cree Tribe Wellness Coalition and 2017 Powwow Committee are asking for the public’s help after two checkbooks were stolen in a break in at Stone Child College on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

Elinor Nault Wright, chairperson of the Wellness Coalition, said Thursday that the Office of Indigenous Research at the college was broken into Thursday morning.

“Many items are missing … and include two checkbooks belonging to the Chippewa Cree Tribe Wellness Coalition and the 2017 Powwow Committee,” Wright said.

“We are asking for assistance in solving this crime,” she added. “If you have information, or if someone approaches you to cash a Wellness Coalition or 2017 Powwow Committee check from a bank account at Bear Paw Credit Union, please contact the Rocky Boy Police Department 406-395-4513.”

No additional information about the break-in or items stolen was provided.

Stone Child College President Corey Sangrey and Rocky Boy Police had not responded to requests for comment before print deadline today.
