Lights dominate at Trapper Open

The Montana State University-Northern Lights are excited about making their home debut this week on the wrestling mats. But first, the Lights took care of some business in Wyoming.

On Sunday, Northern competed in the Trapper Open, hosted by Northwest College, and MSU-N put forth a strong showing. The Lights took 11 wrestlers into what was their second tournament of the season, and they came away with four championships and seven placers.

Brandon Weber (157), Andrew Bartel (165) and Chris Nile (174) all won individual titles for the Lights at the Trapper Open, while true freshman Chase Short took second to Nile at 174. Another true freshman, Isaac Bartel, continues to look impressive as he walked away with the 197-pound championship.

Freshman Nick Kunz also placed fourth for the Lights at 125 pounds, while Dace Fisher took fourth, wrestling unattached at heavyweight.

"The guys looked great," Northern head coach Tyson Thivierge said. "They wrestled extremely well and are making big strides."

Northern will now turn its attention to its first home dual of the season when the Lights host Warner Pacific Thursday night in the Armory Gymnasium.
