MSU-N's Rachel David runs to the finish line

The Montana State University-Northern Women's cross country program still has a long way to go, but Saturday in Vancouver, Washington, the Skylights had a milestone moment, as MSU-N had a runner take part in the NAIA Cross Country Championships for the first time.

Rachel David, who finished 11th at the Frontier Conference Championships earlier this month, laced it up and ran with more than 300 other runners at the national meet. David, a sophomore, finished 240th out of 338 total runners. She did so after posting a time of 20:14.

The individual national championship went to Aminat Olowora of Oklahoma City, who blew away the rest of the field, thanks to her time of 16:50, which was 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Jessa Perkinson of Southern Oregon, who ran a 17:20. Olowora posted her impressive time thanks to a pace of 5:25 per mile. David, who beat out close to 100 other runners at the meet in her first trip to nationals, had a pace of 6:31 per mile.

David, a former Havre Blue Pony, will be a junior for the Skylights next fall.
