OBITUARY - William "Bill" Schmockel

William “Bill” Schmockel of Havre, MT, a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017.

Billy was born March 25, 1956, in Fort Belknap to Richard Schmockel and Theresa Small. He was raised and attended schools in Havre, MT, until the age of 16 when he left to pursue work on the oil rigs. He loved working the rigs and enjoyed providing for his family. He learned from his father to be independent, self-sufficient and a hard worker.

His hobbies included visiting with friends, enjoying some cold brews, watching his Washington Redskins play. Billy enjoyed playing on pool leagues and was a sought-after player for many teams as he was considered a “Pool Shark.” Billy was a great friend and could get along with anyone. He loved to tell stories and he had the most infectious laugh.

Billy is survived by his sons, Joey (Shannon) Larson of Fort Peck, Johnnie R. Schmockel and Shane (Rebecca) Brien of Great Falls; daughters, Shannon Larson of Havre and Dawn Turner of Great Falls; sisters Marcella (Scott) Knaub of Lodge Grass, MT and Sharon Schmockel of Havre, MT; his nieces, nephews and his many grandchildren; and his friend Linda Azure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Theresa; his wife, Annalee Brien; sisters, Joanne Williams and Cynthia Schmockel; and brothers, Leland and Joe Arkinson.

A viewing will be at the Hi-Line Funeral Home today, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at 7 p.m. Services are to be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at 10 a.m., also at the Hi-Line Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Highland Park Cemetery.
